Talking about mental health helps remove the stigma surrounding mental health and encourages people to find help, like learning about ketamine for depression.

Tips for talking about mental health:

  • Write a letter if talking in person is hard for you
  • If you’re uncomfortable talking to someone you know, try talking to a therapist or counselor
  • Start by journaling so that you can collect your thoughts before starting a conversation
  • Practice by talking to yourself in a mirror
  • Remember that you’ll probably feel better after talking to someone
  • Remember that you’re not alone and that there are people who want to help

Support Our Youth

Mental health conditions are common among teens and young adults. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), 50% of lifetime mental illnesses develop by age 14 and 75% develop by age 24. Speaking up and asking for help is the first step in the process. If you have children or work with youth, it’s important to be ready to check in with kids and see how they’re doing on a regular basis. Ask how they’re feeling, and if they’re looking sad or withdrawn, don’t be afraid to ask them about it!

Their Say It Out Loud toolkit is available for download and includes a short film, a discussion guide, a narrated presentation, fact sheets, and information for connecting with your local NAMI chapter.

Advocacy Work

You can sign up to be a volunteer with many different organizations, including the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, which is the organization our ketamine clinic donates to. Not only will you be able to learn more about how to help support your community, you will also be in the know about public policy and other issues surrounding mental health.

You can make change in your local community and the groups you are already a part of — like faith groups, workplace, schools. Simply having a conversation or asking what kinds of services your community already provides is a great place to start. You can connect with other people who are already doing advocacy work or find areas of need.

You can also advocate for open conversations around mental health online. Depending on how comfortable you are with sharing online, you can use social media channels to reach people in your community and work to reduce the stigma around mental health. You can share everything from personal stories to research and articles about mental health and studies on treatment options like ketamine for depression.
